Launched in October 2009, blueknows is a clean, easy-to-use directory of shops and services in Nova Scotia. While there are many ways to locate information on businesses on the internet, blueknows.ca only features companies that are local to the customer. This saves valuable time and helps potential clients discover new shops and services in their area. 

The site is designed to be useful as both a hyperlocal reference and research tool, allowing visitors to rate local businesses in a number of different categories, and share their comments - both good and bad - with the public. 

The name "blueknows" is a play on the word "Bluenose", the name of a famous sailing vessel from Nova Scotia, Canada. Nova Scotians are sometimes affectionately known as "bluenosers" in other parts of the country.

Blueknows was designed for Halifax's Chronicle-Herald, one of Canada's oldest newspapers and the largest news publication in Nova Scotia.
